Have you ever attended a birthday that was too boring, or too unorganized? Well the story I’m about to tell you is nothing like that. This story I’m about to tell you is one about a birthday I attended this summer that was spontaneous, eventful and unlike any birthday I’ve ever attended.
The day started out quiet oddly. You see, I was at my “second family’s” house in Summerland and even though they weren’t blood related by any means, I still considered them my family. After all the crazy stories about my father have been told around the camp fire and everyone went to bed, the scorching sun quickly arose despite everyone that just got to sleep. Burning my droopy eyes to the core through the window across the room, it was clear sign that it was time to get up. Not to long after I get a text from a friend, asking if I wanted to go to his birthday on the Westside that day. An 80’s montage later I reached Safari Ridge paint ball arena wearing nothing but an army colored muscle shirt and jeans. Man was it a war out there! Paintballs flying, teams moving in distinct formation, commands given, and screams from unexpected players. You couldn’t ask for a more fun war.
As you can probably imagine, my upper body was brutally swore. After sitting around for approximately 10 minutes, we eventually decided to catch a bus into town. As we start walking to the bus stop, we all quickly realized that we had no clue where the bus stop was. So we kept on walking, and walking, yet never found the stop. Now this would usually be the part where the boring part usually begins. However, it wasn’t boring at all. We ended up walking, joking, and turning our shirts into a daisy dukes top while putting our thumbs up for a ride, all the way into Kelowna . Once we were finally able to sit down the birthday boy surprised all of us by telling us what he planned for us next. As he casually explained that we were going to go zip lining, his mom, unknowingly to us, then pulled up and drove us all the way up to the zip line site.
Upon arriving at the zip line office, we were immediately suited up and shipped off to our first zip line. Man was it a blast! We ended up going down the mountain side from zip line to zip line, preforming the occasional dead man (where you face the sky, making your limbs go into a ragdoll state, while not holding onto anything). We even at one point made bets with each other about who will be the fastest going down this one zip line. I won of course. Unfortunately we eventually had to reach the bottom, where we grabbed our stuff and headed to the birthday boy’s house. Man did he ever have a mansion! There were 7 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, had his own theater room, a dome at the top and plenty, plenty more.
We all sat around late that night asking ourselves “this can’t be the end to our night.” So we all put our poor heads together and actually made them think; in the summer time! Never thought we would, but somehow we managed to come up with the idea about going to the beach. So that’s what we did. We went down to the nearest beach, and had one of the best nights of our lives. All we brought were towels, a few snacks, drinks, and hotdogs and a BBQ. After going for a chilling swim we all sat around the mini fire eating perfectly cooked hotdogs, made by yours truly, and told stories and other teen gossips while listening to light background music. After a while all this fun we were having got me thinking of an old saying. “It’s the simple things in life that mean the most.” It wasn’t until then did I realize that it was so true. Everything we were doing that night was so simple, yet it was the most memorable part of that day.
Have you ever attended a birthday similar to this? If and when was the last time you went to a birthday that was spontaneous, eventful, and unlike any other birthday you have ever attended? Because I can guaranty that if it didn’t have any of the characteristics listed above, it was probably one of the worst you’ve ever been to. Lastly, if you have been to a birthday similar to this, think for a moment, was the most memorable part the simplest part of the birthday?
